When you hear me make that statement, along with the title of the book, it gives you a hint I’m pro-gun. What it doesn’t tell you is that I shot a gun for the first time on my 45th birthday. I admit to being scared in the beginning, but I was determined to find a new adventure to share with my husband. What I didn’t realize when I started shooting was just how much more than a new adventure I would find!

We have made new friends throughout the country while participating a in a variety of shooting sports. Many of these new friends are women who, like me, are in their 30’s, 40’s, or 50’s and started to become educated about firearms. During interviews for the book I noticed they used words such as “empowering", "improved self-esteem" and "personal security".
This book is about encouraging (not frightening) women to become educated about guns and shooting sports. It does not discuss hunting or domestic violence. It’s about women who have become interested in firearms education and training through shooting sports. Do I think shooting sports empowers women and improves their self-esteem? YES! Do I think shooting sports improves a woman’s ability to protect herself or her family if their personal security is threatened? YES!
